The island provides free access to a large number of dive sites (Columbia, Palancar, Santa Rosa, Punta Tunich, Santa Rosa Wall, San Francisco Reef, Yucab Reef, etc.), where you can see colorful schools of fish, huge soft corals, sponges and others. sea inhabitants.

One of the most popular dive sites in Cozumel is Palancar Reef. This is a great place for beginners and experienced divers to get a good diving experience and enjoy the clear waters and underwater life of the Caribbean.

Large accumulations of corals are adjacent to orange and purple sea sponges, sometimes you can see huge manta rays and turtles here. Ocean currents are sometimes quite strong and most dives are in drift mode, which does not prevent you from enjoying marine life.

Depths: Most sites are in the 12-30m range.

Visibility: typically 25 to 30 meters.

Water temperature: The average water temperature in winter is 26°C and 29°C in summer.

Bull sharks and special diving in Playa del Carmen

Many divers come to Playa del Carmen from all over the world to see majestic predators at  the arm’s length. It is the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea that female bull sharks chose to give birth to offspring. They bring about a dozen sharks into the mangroves along the coast, where the newborns stay to live until they get stronger.

Pregnant sharks are slow and non-aggressive, allowing divers to come very close, slowly moving over the coral reef at a depth of about 25 m.

Females reach a length of 4 m, males are much smaller – up to 2.5 m.
